The Lord of Nightmares possessing Lina Inverse
The Lord of Nightmares, also known as the Mother of Everything, The Golden Lord, Lord of Dreams that Terrify, the Sea of Chaos, He Who Shines Like Gold upon the Sea of Chaos, and L-Sama is the creator and essence of the four worlds described and chronicled in Slayers and Lost Universe. She is a complex and chaotic entity whose purpose and motives are hard to understand, even by those few who know of her existence. Also, the female designation is arbitrary as the Lord of Nightmares has no gender, in truth, not even a form because she is the Sea of Chaos and the Sea of Chaos is her. It could be said that she is the 'mind' or 'will' of it but that is only trying to pin it down for mortals' limited comprehension.
Personality and Motivations[]
As the Lord of Nightmares is the Sea of Chaos itself, her actions, motivations and very existence are an enigma that no one can understand, and true to her chaotic nature she is beyond unpredictable. Even after she created the four worlds she desired to have them destroyed and returned to her, but even when the opportunity arises to destroy them she does not take it and allows them to keep existing. She even created Demon Lords to destroy them but alongside them created Divine Lords to protect them, which is further proof of her unpredictable nature. One individual believes she simply did everything she has done for her own amusement and does not care if the world is destroyed or continues existing, while others believe she creates chaos and conflict as she needs it to survive, but in the end the true answer is beyond mortal, dragon or demon grasp. Despite seemingly not caring for the world, her position of whether or not she cares about the worlds or its inhabitants is further brought into question when Lina Inverse successfully summoned her power through her Giga Slave (despite spells relying on her being highly unreliable or destructive), the Lord of Nightmares possessed her but only brought forth a small fraction of her power that would only be enough to defeat Phibrizzo rather than the whole world (which its destruction is her supposed goal) and when she took Lina's body as a toll she granted her final wish and desires which was to bring everyone who was killed back to life and even allow her companions to see her before taking her to the Sea of Chaos. Oddly enough, when Gourry went into the Sea of Chaos to go after Lina's soul and he showed his true emotions to her, it appears that his emotions for Lina make the Lord of Nightmares choose to return her back into existence with him, however she does take his Sword of Light in exchange as well. All in all, these contradictory actions and behaviors of the Lord of Nightmares truly makes her a complex and hard to understand entity and her motivations and position may never be known.
